Bask in the Tranquil Courtyard of Bywater Guest House

Enjoy morning coffee on the leafy garden patio of this vibrant, Creole-style cottage nestled on a shady corner lot. Prep a meal within the funky-modern confines of the kitchen or wander the colorful interiors until you find a sunny spot on the couch. If you prefer to sleep in while on vacation, feel free to close all the wooden shutters to form a comfortable, dark cocoon in the bedroom and pretend like the rest of the world has stopped while you relax. When you are ready to get out and about, venture outside to explore the unique architecture of the Bywater and visit local dives and hangouts! This guest house is a creole-style cottage adjacent to a traditional shotgun (occupied by the host) on a shady corner lot in the Bywater Historic District. Originally built in the 1800s, renovated in 2007, and completely refreshed in 2017, guests will enjoy full, private access to this 600+ square foot, 1 bedroom, 1 bath cottage with a fully appointed kitchen. There is a queen bed in the bedroom plus a West Elm modular couch in the living room that comfortably sleeps one adult. Extra linens and pillows are provided. Flat-screen TV with DirecTV and DVD player. Washer/dryer in unit with supplies. Freshly-squeezed grapefruit and satsuma juice from trees in the courtyard, when in season (October - February)! Guests may feel welcome to sit in the courtyard, with a private patio just outside the living room door. We live on-site, and the door to our home is just across the courtyard from the living room or at the deck by your entry door. Should you need anything, we’re happy to be at your service. Otherwise, we'll leave you to the quiet enjoyment of the space and to enjoy your travels. The guest house is situated in the Bywater Historic District, a Creole neighborhood mostly known for its brightly colored architecture and creative community members. The neighborhood boasts easy access to dining and entertainment, and a number of hotspots are nearby including one of the city’s best brunches, a nano-brewery, and a wine bar with live courtyard jazz multiple times a day! The Crescent Park trail along the river is two blocks away and is a nice gateway to the French Quarter. The Crescent Park trail along the Mississippi Riverfront is two blocks from the house and offers easy bike/pedestrian/wheelchair access to the French Market (about 1.5 miles) along with the rest of the French Quarter beyond (Jackson Square is about 2 miles from the house). Multiple bus routes are within 2-4 blocks of the house, including Bus Route 5 two blocks away that takes you to the Quarter. The Rampart-St. Claude Streetcar Route is approximately 1.6 miles away at the intersection of St. Claude and Elysian Fields. Several local businesses offer scooter and bike rentals within a couple miles of the house, and a bike share station (Blue Bikes NOLA) is located around the corner. Uber/Lyft/rideshares are readily available, typically in 5 minutes or less at most times of day, and cost around $7-$12 to the French Quarter/CBD (or Central Business District as we in New Orleans call our downtown), depending upon traffic, time of day, exact dropoff location, etc. If you are driving your own vehicle, apps like "Spothero" will help you find and compare options for private or paid parking lots and spaces at your destination. On-street parking is typically pretty easy to find and no permit is required/no time restrictions exist. J&J's Sports Bar is across the street. While it can be great for watching a game close-by or for a night cap before you hit the sack, depending upon the day, it can also create conversation noise into the wee hours. Wander through the French Quarter from a Treme Shotgun Home

Unwind on the secluded back porch, or sip iced tea on the shaded front veranda of this updated, Victorian-era shotgun home. Statement period details include parlor doors, 11-foot ceilings, fireplaces, wood paneling, and floor-to-ceiling windows. You'll enjoy twelve foot ceilings with ceiling fans, large windows with working shutters, gorgeous woodwork including a fireplace in every room (including bathrooms) and the best of furnishings and art. You will be given the access code to keys with your reservation. The front porch, laundry room and back yard are shared. The remainder is private. You can unlock the adjoining interior door if you rent both sides. Feel free to text or call at anytime to reach me. The house is in the heart of the oldest part of the famous Treme neighborhood, just four blocks from the French Quarter and the street car line. Location, location, location ... bike rentals in the French Quarter (4 blocks) ... bike lanes on Rampart (4 blocks) and Esplanade (1 block) ... new streetcar line on Rampart ... connecting you to any historic neighborhood or park WITHOUT GETTING IN A CAR. Of course there's Uber and Lift. Free street parking. All beds and furnishings are brand new. We're stocked to the brim with almost anything you can think of. We employ a professional cleaning lady, Eva.
