This charming REMOTE adobe sits in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains . The village of Mora lies ~ 15 minutes away, Sipapu ski resort 40 minutes, & Taos ski area 1 hour. The casita sits 4 miles into a canyon on a DIRT road at ~8500 feet. Surrounded by 10 acres of Ponderosa Pine/Douglas Fir it is a wonderful base for nearby hiking, hunting, fishing, skiing & dirt biking.
The adobe is very remote according to most people. Directions should be carefully followed. GPS and cell service are not reliable! Although this mountain adobe is a wonderful getaway it is far from 'rustic'. All modern conveniences (minus wifi and tv) are available. It is situated less than 2 miles from Morphy lake. The surrounding mountains offer spectacular views and cool summer evenings. Great starting place for hunters, hikers, fishing and leaf peaking in the fall. Local residents offer horse back riding, guiding and local tour spots including pick your own raspberries at Salmon Ranch, the Alpaca Ranch, Tapetes de Lana, Mill Fest at Cleveland Roller Mill and Fort Union tours.
Mora is a mountain community with rich cultural heritage. There are several events that celebrate this heritage including the Mora Fiestas (end of July) the Cleveland Mill Fest (early September) Raspberry picking (end of summer) and of course hunting & fishing. It is a beautiful gateway to amazing ski adventures such as Angel Fire, Sipapu, Red River and Taos.

Small unit in house in Las Vegas, NM. Couch and air mattress in common room for guests on a budget & traveling through. Kitchen and bathroom/shower available. Disclaimer: bathroom is through my room but is available for guests as needed. Located right next to Carnegie Library. Quiet area surrounded by historic homes. Within walking distance from downtown plaza.
I have a large comfortable couch and a large air mattress available. Ideal for 1 or 2 guests. This is in a common room as soon as you walk into the unit. Kitchen available for use. Restroom with shower also available. Please note! Noise travels easily through the unit. I have received a number of noise complaints, so please keep voices down when in the unit. Also please leave the white screen door open with the bricks intact on it. It makes a very loud slamming noise and will wake the neighbors.
My unit is in a quiet historic neighborhood next to Carnegie Library. An ideal part of town. Lots of good restaurants and coffee shops in town. Close to Highlands University.

This little cabin is nestled in the pines with spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. The roads are a little rough, but this will only assure you a quite and peaceful retreat away from crowded campgrounds and congested resort areas. If you are interested in hiking or exploring, this is the perfect place, or you can simply relax and enjoy some quite solitude on the mountain. Contact host during inclement weather to check on the roads
The cabin is off grid, We do have a few solar lights and a lantern for your convenience and there is an outhouse in the back. The cabin is situated in a beautiful meadow with spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains. There is a wood stove to take the chill away on those cool evenings. There is no running water in the cabin, but we provide adequate water for dishes and drinking. There is plenty of water available on the property.. The small kitchen is set up with a propane stovetop, a sink and all the dishes you need for cooking a good meal. Outside you will find a fire pit to sit and enjoy the stars and roast marshmallows or make s'mores. There is an abundance of firewood to take away the chill on a cold night or barbeque outside. The cabin sits on a ranch known as Los Vallecitos. We raise grass-fed beef and lamb that is certified through AWA and market produce seasonally. Our meats and produce are available for purchase if you notify us in advance. Please keep in mind, this cabin is secluded which means it is a good drive off of the interstate. The entrance to the property is 3.5 miles up and county road and another 2 miles on a mountain road. This is a perfect spot for getting away, cell service is spotty, depending on who your provider is. Verizon seems to get the best service. On the property you will find a pond, river frontage and lots of hiking opportunities. We are a short drive to the Santa Fe National Forest for longer hikes.
We are close to the Santa Fe National Forest and the Pecos wilderness is not far if you are looking for hiking adventures. We also have a couple of locals who offer trail rides into the Santa Fe National Forest. But you need to book in advance. If you want to enjoy some of the local flavor, you can visit the Victory Ranch where they raise alpacas, The Mora Valley Spinning Mill where you can watch how worsted yarns are produced, purchase their yarns / drink a cup of coffee. Mora also has several restaurants, but we do not have a grocery store, so make sure you bring your food supplies.

Looking for a quiet getaway? This adorable, 1 room casita is a 2 minute walk to the Pecos River (this walk-in the summer has tall grasses to walk through) and just a short drive away from many trails and fishing spots in the Pecos Wilderness Area. The small Casita has many windows. It is 30 m from Santa Fe. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE DESCRIPTION of this listing to ensure an accurate understanding, especially related to the neighborhood and town of Pecos, NM, and also the kitchen which is limited.
This is a small studio space, well lit, with a fridge, toaster oven, hot-plate and other kitchen amenities. The main bed is a full/double size bed. (picture of bed shows single bed, need to take new picture of the new full size bed!)The fold down futon is a twin size bed. So three people can sleep in the casita but it is best for 1-2 people for sure. There is NO TV. You may NOT get cell phone service here. Verizon is sometimes ok, but other carriers will probably not get phone service here. There is wifi that works fast so WhatsApp or Skype could work for calls. The kitchen area is TINY and limited. No microwave, but a brand new toaster oven, a hot plate and also a single electric burner with a small cooking pot. All items are located inside the stainless steel cabinet.
The street is a quiet residential area. The casita is enclosed inside a fenced in yard. You can walk to the river in three minutes. The neighborhood is a classic, Norteño culture. There is also a mix of socioeconomic classes here, so you will see some beautiful, fancy adobe houses (like mine) and you will also see trailers and lower income housing. For out of staters.... especially Texans, please note that Pecos is NOT Santa Fe! Santa Fe is like the New York of New Mexico. (I'm originally from NY) Pecos is a way more traditional New Mexican type of town. There are very few amenities, 2 gas stations, a couple restaurants, 2 dollar stores, and a Dairy Queen! The rest is river and wilderness.
Merci encore Rebecca!

This log Hogan (or Hogaan) is an 8 sided log cabin in the Northern mountains of New Mexico. The 8 sided design came from the Navajo people. If you want to get back to nature, experience a rustic environment and enjoy some solitude without "roughing it" then the Red Tail Retreat is just for you. What sets this cabin apart is that it is "set apart" from any other dwellings. Your own private mountain retreat.
This one room cabin has hot and cold running water, indoor plumbing, is heated by a wood stove and a small LP Heater, 3 great propane burners for cooking, and for the more adventurous, a fully functional antique wood burning stove. The large surround porch hosts a hammock for relaxing as well as a porch swing. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, silverware and cooking utensils. While the wood stove is adequate to provide heat in winter months we have added a small LP Heater to supplement the wood burning stove.
We are rural but only 2 miles off a paved state highway. This area was part of an original Spanish land grant and has a great deal of rich history. There are many interesting stories that help us understand how the Southwest was settled.

Grandma's House is an adobe house, built about 400 years ago, located in Holman, NM. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains, specifically La Jicarita peak/ridge with the Pecos Wilderness visible from the home with hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing, snowshoeing and much more, close by. A Good and relaxing place to do artwork, read and meditate. Something for everyone with a visit by car to the eight northern pueblos, old historic churches, mills, and abundance of culture and history awaits you.
Holman N, M is a city located in Mora County. The original native name of the town was Liz Koh (dark waters), the Mexicans called it Agua Negra and the first postmaster named Holman because "ole Charlie" could not speak a bit of Spanish or Jicarilla Apache. The real town where the house is located is called Tramperos. Grandma's house is a combination of many years of history and style of interior construction, such as Adobe/bricks, small doors, earthen floors, and ax cut beams eventually move into new forms of larger windows, a door with a large entrance, adobe walls with combinations of panels and sheets of plaster. The walls and windows are very thick in some areas, three feet wide. A hidden roof of the earth on the roof of the beams / Latias that makes it a true home of the earth. We have done everything possible to keep all this intact with minimal change. As was the custom years ago, the water well was dug by hand, which can be seen in the front of the house; the apple orchard with Acequia/ ditch of water. The house has new amenities such as running water and bathroom, but you still have the opportunity to use the "Out House" if you wish. Grandma's house has many good memories and positive energy. Grandma was always cooking on her wood stove, sitting on her porch or doing the activities to maintain her house and her yard. Many members of the family experienced the warmth and hospitality of the grandmother, and for that reason, we wanted to name her "Grandma's House" in honor of her and the other great-grandmothers who were here before us. Grandma's House doesn't have handicap ramps.
You can start by visiting La Cueva Mill, the St. Vrain Mill, and the Cleveland Roller Mill. Another mill that exists along highway 518 is the infamous Mora Valley Spinning Mill which is also home to the Tapetes De Lana Art Gallery and Store as well as The Coffee Barn snack shop. There are five (5) Restaurants serving traditional New Mexican food. Historic missions churches, beautiful hiking trails and much more. You can be camping, playing golf, experiencing the lifestyle in the country and exploring Mora. Also, we are at 45 minutes of Taos and Las Vegas, NM, at 1 hour to Angel Fire and Red River, 30 minutes of Sipapu, 2 hours to Taos Ski Valley. There are some farmers and ranchers that sell their fresh products, but the town doesn't have a grocery store. so, if you want to cook in Grandma's House you can bring your own groceries or make a trip to Taos or Las Vegas, enjoy the view and buy the groceries.

We are very centrally located on 7th Street, one of the main streets in Las Vegas. Conveniently walkable to both of our downtown areas. Many shops, galleries, banks, restaurants, cafes and neighborhood bars are within a 5-10 minute walk. Las Vegas has a long, rich and fascinating history. This is the authentic Las Vegas: a three-college town 50-minutes east of Santa Fe; the southeastern point of a spectacular loop to Taos along the east side of the Sangre de Cristo mountains; an impressive collection of architectural gems and a burgeoning arts community. Las Vegas was incorporated in 1835, but the original settlement is just as old as Santa Fe. Las Vegas served as a key stop on the historic Santa Fe Trail; a hard-core wild west town; home to America's most notorious gun-slinging outlaws including Doc Holliday (who owned a saloon and barber shop in town), and Billy the Kid (who spent time in jail here); and a gritty backdrop for numerous films including "Easy Rider", the Academy Award-winning "No Country for Old Men", Simon Pegg's sci-fi comedy, "Paul" and television pilots for "Vegas" and "Midnight Texas". Its beautifully renovated historic train station brings travelers via Amtrak from downtown Los Angeles to the west, and from downtown Chicago to the east. Las Vegas has long served as a gateway between east and west, a densely layered locus for generations of people in motion: Apache and Comanche nomads, French fur trappers, Spanish conquistadors, pioneers migrating westward, fevered gold miners, wild-west outlaws on the run, east coast merchants, Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders, Hollywood film crews, bikers on Harleys and Europeans in search of the authentic Wild West. This is a three college town and it can be celebratory and noisy at certain times of the year, including: start of school, homecoming weekend, graduation; and during large event weekends, such as the Fourth of July, The Fiestas, the Rough Rider Motorcycle Rally, and New Year's Eve. However, this is a town of parades and celebrations, so these are also some of the most festive and fun times to be in town. If you are going to be in town during one of the above noisy weekends of the year, and are not in town to celebrate and/or are seeking peace and quiet, remember that Rita-T's is right in the thick of things. If you want to be a part of the action, we are very convenient to everything.

On reviendra certainement.

This is a fun, beautiful, safe place to stay! Owned by an artist/teacher, this adobe home is full of interesting vintage finds and character. It's no-frills European-style, and you would share a bathroom with the owner (sharing the shower), but really, we have three bathrooms, so we probably won't use "yours" while you are here. Your sunny, private bedroom awaits! It looks like France when you look out the window into the serene valley!
Art, character, great location, parking space, use of the kitchen/laundry. Make yourself at home! We have a cat. She may visit or not, its up to you. Your bedroom has a very comfortable mid-century double size bed with lovely linens/sheets. We provide you with a guest bath towel(s) for your convenience. I will leave you a simple breakfast often with homemade coffee breads, coffee/tea, etc... Please let me know if you have any specific dietary needs and I can try to accommodate you if possible. Please don't bring meals into the bedrooms-- feel free to use the dining area. While we don't have "air conditioning" in each room, but the natural adobe walls and cool evenings leave the home feeling very comfortable. We barely have any humidity out here in the high desert mountains. This is an old adobe farmstead that we are restoring, so think "Grandma/Abuela-The-Artist's-Place". We are an hours drive from Taos, Sipapu is near by, and Santa Fe is an hour and a half. Let this be your hub as you explore the area. We have interesting architectural features and mills here in the Mora valley to check out. Fiber artists take note: the Tapetes de Lana is here 5 miles away, as is the Alpaca ranch.
We live right down the street from our little hamlet of Ledoux, named for Antoine Ledoux, a French-Canadian trapper who settled this area long ago. Morphy Lake is nearby as is the larger "town" of Mora. We can recommend some great spots for local eats and adventures. If you are looking for peace and tranquility, incredible natural beauty, listening to birds and maybe even coyotes at night, this is the little piece of heaven for you.

Seeking a safe place to hunker down? This A-frame in the woods has no cell or internet. You won’t feel the incessant pull of technology delivering horrid news day by day. A peace and tranquility you thought was no longer attainable. Bring a few novels. Savor the words on a page that isn’t blinking with ads. Write your memoir. Sink into yourself. We have a landline and you can give your loved ones our number and tell them not to call unless an emergency. Explain you are enjoying a place of peace.
This cabin has new plumbing, updated electricity, new cabinet counter-tops and floors. The beds are comfy and the wood stove will keep you warm!
There is a solar gate which makes this community very quiet and private. There are 12 houses in this little community and everything else is beautiful nature. The back yard butts up against the national forest which stretches as far as you could walk.

Estefanitas de Casa Flores is an authentic adobe shotgun style home built by Manuel Flores and his three brothers. The home lays on land acquired for services rendered with the Union Army in the Battle at Glorieta located between Santa Fe and Las Vegas New Mexico in 1862.Over the next five years the brothers built a 12 room, shotgun style, southwestern home. In the following generations of family two additional wings were built that comprise the 24 room home that it is today. Simultaneously, three blocks away at the Plaza Vieja district, merchants were bringing retail business and commercial trade from points east and south such as St. Louis and Mexico. With them, they also brought a unique architectural Victorian style reminiscent of the classic structures of the East Coast. With over 900 abobe and Victorian structures on the National Historic Register in Las Vegas New Mexico, Casa Flores stands out as a classic example of the Southwestern Territorial Adobe design style. It features original hand stripped vigas (wood beams) harvested from the local land during original construction. The local cultural points of interest include walking a few short blocks to the historic Plaza Vieja and New Mexico Highlands University.

Only 26 miles from Santa Fe, Casa Dulce invites you to step back in time. The 1936 custom-built, one-bedroom, arts and crafts style, adobe home is located on the wilderness edge of the rustic Hispanic Village of Pecos. Relax and enjoy your meals on the screened-in back porch. The kitchen is supplied with the basics for cooking. Explore the Pecos National Monument, hike or fish or take a drive in the Pecos Wilderness. A perfect retreat and the Santa Fe plaza is only 30 minutes away.
Camino Rincon is a typical, one-lane Northern New Mexico rural street. The neighbors are a variety of good people including quite a few characters. Casa Dulce was the first house on the street with electricity in 1936. It has always been a gathering place even though it is small in size because it is large in character and charm.

Make sure you look at the Face of Hermit's Peak from our meadow! When you see it, you will never forget it! We have the perfect view of Hermit's Peak from our property as it rises to 10,263 feet above sea level here in the Sangre de Christo Mountains of northern New Mexico. If you look carefully, you can see that the peaks align here perfectly to form the outline of a man's face as he looks up to the sky! The peak was a familiar landmark on the Santa Fe trail, and was the home of the famous Hermit of Las Vegas. When you come, we encourage you to find out more about this and other fascinating stories of this very historic community. We are located about 1/2 hour, and 15 miles northeast of Las Vegas, New Mexico, the nearest town. Pecos Wilderness access less than two miles away. Hot springs in Montezuma NM is 20 minutes away. Santa Fe 90 minutes away. Pendaries Golf 90 minutes away. Skiing areas at least 90 minutes away. There is hiking on our property (you can search for fossils and arrowheads) and nearby to Hermit's Peak and beyond. There are numerous places to fish in our stream Beaver Creek, Gallinas Canyon, and the local lakes. The castle in Montezuma is a sight to behold as you drive by the United World College on the way up to our cabin. Sightseeing in Las Vegas includes Victorian homes and many historic buildings. Many movies and television shows have been filmed here and around the area.
