A stay in a local home can create income for hosts, increase spending at neighbourhood shops and services, and support jobs across food and beverage, transport, retail, and tourism.In 2025, spending associated with Airbnb stays in Vietnam contributed an estimated VND 10.2 trillion to GDP, supported more than 85,000 jobs, and generated VND 5.2 trillion in labour income*.

A ripple effect on various sectors
The impact of Airbnb in Vietnam extends far beyond host earnings. Guest and host activity helps generate demand across the wider economy, supporting local cafés, transport providers, retailers, manufacturers, and other local businesses that benefit when travellers spend in the places they visit.According to a guest compact survey*, almost half of Airbnb guests spend in the neighbourhood of the Airbnb they are staying in and an estimated total VND 2.1 trillion is spent in less visited neighbourhoods.

Airbnb helps more people in Vietnam participate directly in the tourism economy. By enabling ordinary households to earn income from the space they already have, hosting can create a flexible pathway into microentrepreneurship and small-scale business activity.For many hosts, that income has tangible everyday value. In Vietnam, 73.9% of surveyed hosts said hosting income helped them cover higher living costs, while 1 in 3 hosts said hosting income helped them stay in their home*. This shows how hosting can strengthen household financial resilience while creating more inclusive economic opportunity.

Airbnb supports responsible hosting in Vietnam by equipping hosts with practical guidance on the essentials including compliance and safety. Hosts can access information on business registration, tax responsibilities, guest reporting, fire safety, security requirements, and other important local obligations to help them host more responsibly and in line with local rules.Safety and accountability are central to how Airbnb operates. Through safeguards such as our global party ban, enhanced reservation screening systems, and Neighbourhood Support Line, we work hand-in-hand with local communities and policymakers to strengthen trust in Vietnam’s short-term rental ecosystem.
Banning disruptive parties
Airbnb’s global party ban, introduced in June 2022, prohibits disruptive parties and open-invite gatherings at all listings. Guests who attempt to violate this rule face strict consequences, including account suspension or permanent removal from the platform, ensuring safer, more respectful stays for all.
Enhanced reservation screening
Our enhanced reservation screening technology is designed to reduce the risk of disruptive incidents on our platform globally. The system helps assess and identify potential higher-risk reservations by looking at specific risk factors like user history and the timing of the booking.
