Each May, the Rockton Township Historical Society hosts the annual RHUBARB FEST! Not to miss, this is where one wants to go to buy homemade rhubarb treats..and they sell out fast! You may not have thought much of rhubarb, but it has thought of you and the many ways it will surprise-attack your taste buds. Whether you munch on it straight up or taste it in a pie, cake or any other treat, your sense of taste will thank you immensely. Then there’s your lame friends who think eating rhubarb all day is sacrilege to modern eating habits, but deep down their stomachs hate them with a passion. You and rhubarb win this time. Don't miss this festival. Whatever you do, don't. Rockton Historical Society also operates the Rockton History Museum - a must visit to see a plethora of memorabilia from the famed days of the Wagon Wheel. See artifacts of the heyday of this once very popular resort built by Walt Williamson. Also, see memorabilia of famous Olympic ice skaters such as Janet Lynn, Scott Hamilton, Gordon Mckellen, and their famous coach, Slavka Kohout. As a skater, Kohout was twice the Midwestern sectional senior ladies champion, and she won the bronze medal in the 1950 U.S. junior ladies championships. After turning professional, she was the manager and head coach at the Wagon Wheel Ice Palace in Rockton, Illinois for 17 years. During that period, the Wagon Wheel rink—part of a larger resort complex—was one of the top figure skating training centers in the United States.
