A quirky place to visit and take in the Victorian vibe. The western shore has some great picnic spots too.

Just near where the Windermere ferry docks on the west bank. It is an old Victorian viewing station which has been hidden by trees for years and recently uncovered and restored. Free to visit, views are worth the walk up and there is a nice cafe at the bottom

This fascinating Victorian building built in 1790 has a colourful history and offers stunning views of the lake. The station is a short uphill walk from Ferry House jetty and is well worth a visit with historical information and courtyard café. Take the Windermere ferry from Bowness which runs…

“Spectacular views, excellent food and service. Highly recommend three course 'Sharrow Through the Ages' lunch at £22.50p. Evening menu expensive but for a 'one off' treat for a very special occasion - this is the place! You need to book.”

“Home of the victorian social thinker John Ruskin and a cafe with the best view of Coniston Water and the Old Man. In our view best place for a lake view, light lunch, tea and cakes on Coniston Water.”
