Benicia is the original 1st Capital of California in 1851. The Original Benicia State Capital Building is iconic, beautiful, and historic. At the corner of 1st & G Streets, it is right downtown, easy to get to and a "must see" for Visitors to Benicia.
Benicia was once the capitol of California. The old building and grounds are a nice place to wonder for a little bit of history.
One of the first state capitals tons of history down town it was one of Jack London’s favorite “Hot Spots”
Did you know Benicia was a state capital for a couple of years in the 1850's? No I didn't either, until I moved here The building is well preserved and well worth a visit
Benicia served as state capital for nearly thirteen months from 1853 to 1854. The historical complex is part of the California State Parks system. The Senate Chamber is downstairs and the Assembly is located upstairs. Outside, there's a nice garden area with an old carriage house, servant's quarters, and the Historic Fischer-Hanlon House.
