The Tropenmuseum, founded in 1864 as a Colonial Museum, is a Dutch ethnological museum on Linnaeusstraat in Amsterdam. It has a large collection of ethnographic artifacts from tropical and subtropical areas especially from the former Dutch overseas territories
My favorite museum! The extensive permanent display and regularly changing exhibitions feature objects that all have a story to tell about humankind. Stories about universal human themes like mourning, celebration, ornamentation, prayer, conflict. The Tropenmuseum Junior is the Tropenmuseum’s children’s museum, but very interesting voor adults as well;).
The Tropenmuseum is a museum of world cultures, housed in one of the most impressive museum buildings in the Netherlands. From the monumental Great Hall there is a wide view of what the museum has to offer.
