Many visitors to Wanaka take a hike up Mount Iron especially early in the morning. The views are exhilarating.

The base is only a short 3-5 minute walk away and there are great views at the top

Mount Iron is a popular walk with locals and tourists. Easy enough for everyone to walk to the top of. It should take approx 30 mins to walk to the top to get 360 degree views of Lake Wanaka, Lake Hawea and all surrounding mountains including Cardrona and Treble Cone ski fields. Easy enough for kids to walk up, just take your time and enjoy the view! Park opposite Puzzling world and also on Ardmore St.

Fabulous reasonably easy walk. Spectacular 360 degree views from the top - including Lake Wanaka and Lake Hawea. Wear trainers or walking shoes. Approx 1 hour return on front track or 1 1/2 on full loop track. Access from carpark just our of town on Highway 84 (heading towards the airport).

Lovely view from the top of this iconic Wanaka mountain. Fairly steep climb, but it is also pretty short. Takes about 20 minutes up and the views of Lake Wanaka the upper Clutha and Hawea are magic.
