This is one of the oldest distilleries in the world. Not only can you see how Irish whiskey used to be made, you can see a modern still in action. Moreover, there is a wonderful cafe, and we heartily recommend the all-day breakfast with home fries. Yummy!
Lockes Distillery was licensed in 1757 and has produced whiskey for over 200 years. Now open as a museum, it is the only example left in Ireland of a typical, small pot distillery, so common many centuries ago, on which Ireland’s famous Whiskeys are based.
As the oldest licensed distillery of its kind in Ireland, the Kilbeggan Distilling Company has seen its share of trials and triumphs. Founded in 1757, the distillery spent the next 200 years making a whiskey beloved the world over. 30 minutes drive from Mullingar.

“A day visitor to Belvedere gets to explore the restored Belvedere House, Victorian Walled Garden, rolling parkland and woodland area with it's original walkways with viewing points along the lake shore. While you are there find out the history of 'the jealous wall' . This is a very interesting place to visit and the walkways and gardens are gorgeous. There is a coffee shop here too. ”
