it is a beautiful but curvy 28 mile drive to Sgt. Alvin C. York State Park, but well worth it if your interested in history and the most decorated soldier of WW1. Make sure to stop by the York General Store.

Before going, you should watch the movie "Sergeant York". It is the wonderful, heroic, romantic, heart warming story of Sergeant Alvin York from Pall Mall, TN. The beautiful little park next to the river is a wonderful place for a picnic and to relax. Go to the museums and see the stomping grounds of Alvin York, the beautiful farm and house that our government gave him for his heroism and WWI. The history is wonderful but you really should see the movie to fully appreciate the story.

This park includes Sgt. York's Homeplace, the old Grist Mill, a playground & picnic area, the burial site of Sgt. York and his wife, and a small museum/visitor's center. Great place to have a picnic, let the kids get in the water or play on the playset, tour the homeplace, and walk the dog.

This is not in Morgan County, but only about 40 miles from us. Beautiful countryside. We love the historic grist mill and all the places honoring Sgt. York.
