The National Gallery is just a 300-400m away. A visit there is a good way to start the day - or to keep as a b-plan for a rainy day. The museum takes just a few hours to take the round, so it's definitely not overwhelming. The Museum provides a good overview of our making as a nation, from the Viking settlers to modern Icelanders.

The National museum was renovated a few years ago, there you find great exhibitions, a museum shop and the Kaffitár café.

The National Museum is good for insight into Icelandic history and culture. There is a good coffee shop on the ground floor, Kaffitár, it's an Icelandic chain that has been very popular.
