Pilke Science Centre is Metsähallitus' science centre, which is a great learning environment for people of all ages interested in forests.

This is a museum of Forestry - a bit "weird" topic as such but well worth visiting! I also warmly recommend the museum shop for nice, a bit different souvenirs and gifts!

At the Science Centre Pilke exhibition you will have the opportunity to explore the forest with all your senses and from many different angles. Did you know that for some people, forests are their “office”? That they are a rich source of new materials and innovations? A habitat for plants and animals? And an important part of Finnish culture? Get behind the wheel of a forestry machine, climb into a bird house, meet our mascot Tuksu the pine weevil and sing karaoke on an ant hill. Find all the timber components used to build the largest single item on display at Pilke, the timber-framed Pilke House!

This is a must-see for children and those who are interested about wood. See the forests like you’ve never seen it before! Science Centre Pilke tells stories about the northern forests and the many connections we have with them. Did you know that ice cream, party dresses and medicines all contain timber and other products that comes from forests? Expolore forests indoors through all the senses and get inspired! The Science Centre is suitable for visitors of all ages who are interested in forests and our relationship with them. Pilke House, located on the banks of the river Ounasjoki in Rovaniemi, is the wooden office building of Metsähallitus. It houses the Science Centre Pilke, the Pilke Shop and office premises.
