Not a just a beach, Dungeness is like a place like no other, described by some as another world. It's a bit like Marmite; some love it others just don't get it! We love it!

Dungeness has a unique and desolate landscape, rather like the Wild West. It is a fantastic place just to clear the mind and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The late filmmaker Derek Jarman made his home here (Prospect Cottage) and thousands of people still visit to admire and gain inspiration from his famous coastal garden. You can enjoy a meal at The Pilot Inn or indulge in freshly-caught fish (including lobster!) from the Dungeness Fish Shack (opening times vary).

Dungeness is a coastal landscape supporting a unique mixture of plants, wildlife and people who want to live in a bleak and also uplifting landscape. Which must be why it attracts many artists to live there in wooden houses dotted across the Marsh and the pebble beaches. The nuclear power station at Dungeness adds to the impact of the location. Your lunch must be a visit to The Pilot pub for fish & chips.
