Built in the 1884 when population growth predicted a town the size of 500,000 citizens, the historic City Hall is unlike anything found in the Midwest.

The “Jewel of Bay City” is a historic Richardsonian Romanesque civic building built in 1897 as the original settlers “new city hall” and is still functioning it was originally intended to this day as she triumphed over tragedy a time or two. The interior is dripping with character while the exterior boasts a clock tower soaring 180ft in the air, delighting novices to history and architecture buffs! Bare witness to an exquisite and spacious staircase lined with intricate and decorative ironwork illuminated by plentiful natural light from the 4th floor atrium with the iconic clock tower ascending over you. The final staircase that leads to the clock tower is a bit narrow yet ornate. Upon reaching the top you get a unique panoramic view of the city and fabulous photo ops. Tour this treasure during normal business hours and explore at your own pace or enjoy a guided and informative 1hr tour hosted by the Historical Museum of Bay County offered the second Friday of each month. Tours begin from the lobby of the Historical Museum (building next door) at 11:00am. The cost is $1.00 and space is limited to the first 20 individuals.
