An impressive castle only a couple of miles from the cottage.

Take time to explore the well preserved keep including the room Mary Queen of Scots stayed in. With some of the exhibits, it is easy to imagine oneself back in the days of old with straw on the floors and huddled round open fires for warmth. There is an excellent walk to/from Aysgarth Falls to the Castle and a restaurant there for refreshment en route.

A real, proper castle a short drive away where Mary Queen of Scots was a "guest". A memorable experience.

A beautifully preserved medieval castle, Castle Bolton has been the home of the Bolton family for over 600 years. Explore the maize and gardens, enjoy afternoon tea in the tea rooms after watching the falconry or archery displays. The Castle is open from the end of March until October. Please check the website for entry fees.

It is full of history and many sights to see. A partially restored castle that gives you a glimpse into the lives of those from hundreds of years ago! Even Mary, Queen of Scots was once held captive here.
